RE: places to camp

Organ Pipe National Monument is also a great place to spend a few days if you have the time. They have really good walking trails through the desert and a ranger will take you on a guided walk telling you about the cactus etc., they also have a FREE 25-30 mile van tour of the monument which is very interesting. The visitors center has programs and slideshows, there is an ampitheater at the campground where a ranger will give an evening show & talk about the desert. I can't say enough about it, we sometimes stay there on our way to/from Mexico and love it!

RE: Generator

I may be hijacking this thread so I'll start a new one. The Cummins is a nice unit. I started the Honda EU3000is and ran the Onan side by side. I can barely hear the Honda over the noise the Cummins Onan is making, the Honda is definitely quieter but the engine is also smaller.
Look for an update in a new thread I will start when I have time.

RE: Generator

I have been using the Honda EU3000is on both of my campers which have 15,000 BTU A/C units. It does fine except I have had a couple of issues with the transfer switch dropping offline due to low voltage when the A/C starts. I swapped out the board on the Iota transfer switch and it seems to have solved the problem. If you don't use a transfer switch you shouldn't have a problem.
The delivery truck dropped off a Cummins Onan P4300ie from Costco yesterday. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I pulled it out of the box and rolled it over beside the Honda. It is larger which may be a problem but for the price it is the way to go if the size doesn't matter. If it works out I'll put a remote start on it.
With the Costco return policy you can't go wrong.

RE: Puerto Penasco, Mexico, RV Resort Recommendations

Oro is good for folks that want to be in town, not my cup of tea but there are coffee shops & bars in the vicinity. Free internet.
Bonita is just West of hotel Plaza Las Glorias, fairly close to town with a resturant and big happy hour deck by the beach and free internet. Very popular so it gets crowded. Big rigs park there but the spaces are small compared to the Reef.
Reef is farther from town but the road to it is paved now so it's only 5-10 minutes farther than Bonita. Big spaces, lots of ATV's in & out of the park. Reef charges for internet. Dry camping on the beach is available.
Overall I prefer Bonita but I don't go to Puerto Penasco on busy weekends or any busy season. I would go to the Reef during those times.

RE: Mariposa border crossing danger for motorhomes, trailers etc

I came through there a few days ago and didn't think anything of them. They are just bumps which have to be taken slowly. They are NOT tall topes, just small annoying diagonal bumps which if taken slowly shouldn't cause concern.
I have never crossed at Mariposa without being inspected on the US side. Is it just me??

RE: Poll-First Hand RVing Crimes In Mexico

Over 30 years of worldwide travel & I'm still intact.
Mexico RV Travel, 21 years & other than Pemex attendants, NO incidents and we leave a lot of stuff out in the open & unlocked.
I've had a few incidents around the globe but nothing that leaving on the next flight out of the country didn't cure.:E

RE: 50 Amp Wiring Legs

The reason I ask is that I am running two RV 50A panels off of one feeder and figured it would be best to alternate the leg connections at the panels so they would not both feed the same leg on the RV.

50 Amp Wiring Legs

Is there any standard on which leg powers the living area A/C and other large consumption devices or does the factory installer just jam the wire in the first post he sees?

RE: Fuel prices 9-25-08

For the record, I bought diesel for $6.68 peso/liter today in San Carlos, Sonora. The diving is great, the water is 84 degrees F and the Porta Bote is a very good diving platform.
This coming Sunday is an attempt to put 1000 divers in the water in San Carlos and set a new record.

RE: $1000 off 4300i cummins (robins) at cosco

I just ordered one! I'm hoping I can adapt the Honda remote control to it.
Weight doesn't mean anything to me as I have a geeky Hydraulic Lift Gate.:B
You can order a remote starter for the generator HERE
Thanks! I'm glad you posted the sale. The Honda Eu3000is starts a 15,000 BTU A/C unit but the voltage drops pretty low and my transfer switch sometimes drops off line. I could work around that if this sale didn't come along & save me the trouble.
My only real concern with a larger unit is the fuel consumption, but there may be no difference since it will see a smaller load.

RE: $1000 off 4300i cummins (robins) at cosco

With todays crappy gas I'd go for a propane genset for the homestead.
That's the only reason I've kept my propane Honda EV4010

RE: $1000 off 4300i cummins (robins) at cosco

That is a great deal! Is a remote control available?
It says it doesn't include the battery, is it an internal mounted battery? The weight given doesn't include the battery or the 25 lbs. of fuel. 24" height makes it a tight fit in the truck bed under the 5th wheel.
My Honda eu3000is may be going bye bye if I can get around the height.

It is handwritten. These guys are really good at what they do, I think I'll avoid that place next time or duct tape the lever so they can't zero the meter!

RE: Imuris Pemex

A Lesson learned eh! You should have the correct change in Your Pocket and Not be scrambling around or going to "The Office" for change!
All good advice. This station does not show the price at the pump only the quantity. A trip to the office is required.

RE: Imuris Pemex

Every time it happens you need to file a complaint with the station information at this email: Quejas
That link didn't work for me.

RE: Imuris Pemex

I did get a receipt and will file a complaint. Problem as I see it is everything looks normal, there is no evidence of any problem.
I thought it would be a good idea to post the warning so others could steer clear of that station.
